Nine years as a certified massage therapist, and the practice he built around subconscious tension.
Ryan Calhoon has been a CMT for 9 years. He works at a physical therapy office in Walnut Creek and Senspa in San Francisco, and sees his own clients for in-home sessions throughout the East Bay and greater San Francisco Bay Area.
He came to the nervous system side of the work through his own hardships with mental health and trauma. Ryan has devoted himself to understanding the inner workings of the mind, the nervous system, and the immobilizing disconnect that occurs somatically when emotions and/or the energy of trauma are not expressed.
Ryan reads every book he can get his hands on about mental health, trauma, and somatics, and has designed his own modality around bringing awareness to subconscious tension in the body.
He holds space like no other and is especially interested in helping people work through patriarchal trauma, deprogramming identification with unhealthy social structures, and facilitating reengagement with empathy, softness, and safe boundaries.
Ryan is also a musician, dancer, and filmmaker with a creative spark for helping others through artistic expression.
Three settings. A physical therapy office in Walnut Creek, the spa at Senspa in San Francisco, and his own mobile practice, which is what this site is for. The mobile practice is where the subconscious tension work and ERT happen, because both need more time and a quieter room than a spa schedule allows.
Ryan can bring his table, or chair and all supplies to your home, hotel or place of business. There are practical reasons people prefer it — no commute either side, no drive home afterwards while still loose and dozy, no waiting room. There is a less obvious one too. The work asks you to stay present in your own body, and most people find that easier in a room they already know than in an unfamiliar space.
He travels throughout the East Bay and the greater San Francisco Bay Area, including Walnut Creek, Concord, Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco.
Send your address, the session length you want, and anything relevant. Ryan will confirm the rate and send available times.
